The National Population Commission (NPC) has achieved a remarkable feat by winning two prestigious awards at the 2024 Nigeria GovTech Public Service Awards. The Commission was honoured with the Best Federal MDA Mobile Application and the Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award, acknowledging its exemplary leadership in advancing GovTech initiatives and digital governance.
Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, Chairman of the NPC, was represented by Dr. Clifford Zirra, Federal Commissioner for Adamawa State and Chair of the ICT Committee, who accepted the awards at the Gala Award Night organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms at Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja on October 11, 2024.
It is gratifying to note that NPC won these awards following a nationwide nomination and online voting process conducted across various media platforms by BPSR.
Dr. Dasuki Arabi, Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, emphasized that these awards underscore the NPC's significant contributions to the Federal Government's digital transformation agenda within the public sector.
He said, that the awards highlight the NPC’s commitment to creating user-friendly digital services that enhance public access to important demographic information.
In his acceptance speech, NPC Chairman expressed gratitude to the BPSR, stating, ‘On behalf of the Commission, I would like to thank the Bureau of Public Service Reforms for these awards as the Best Federal MDA Mobile Application and the Distinguished GovTech Trailblazer’s Award. We are truly delighted that our efforts to leverage technology to improve service delivery have been recognised.’
He, however, affirmed the Commission’s commitment to leveraging technology to generate reliable socioeconomic and demographic data for national planning and sustainable development.
Meanwhile, these accolades come on the heels of the NPC's recent achievements, including the successful digitization of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics system through the VITALREG integrated digital platform. This innovative platform has modernized the way vital statistics, such as births and deaths, are recorded and managed in Nigeria. The platform enhances data accuracy and supports real-time data collection and accessibility which is crucial for policy-making and resource allocation.
Additionally, the NPC has developed a unique hybrid Census App, designed to gather and integrate comprehensive geospatial and statistical data on a single platform. This state-of-the-art technology is anticipated to be adopted by other nations, reinforcing Nigeria's status as a leader in digital innovation.
Moreover, the NPC has launched the National Geospatial Data Repository, an electronic portal that serves as a centralized hub for national geographic data. This platform enhances access to and management of geographic information, facilitating informed decision-making and effective development planning.
These awards demonstrate the NPC's unwavering commitment to leveraging technology to drive development and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
Congratulations to the National Population Commission on this well-deserved recognition!
